Dandruff and Hairfall

How to get rid of dandruff and hair fall

What are some of your worst fears? Mine is dandruff and hair fall that comes with it. Winters are the worst. Here’s a simple guide on how to get rid of dandruff and hair fall that might help you.

1- Use Active Ingredients

Try to connect with your dermatologist to know what product works best for your scalp type. Some dermatologists recommend Ketocanozole, zinc pyrithione, salicylic acid, coal tar and selenium sulfide. Drug store brands like Head and Shoulders, Selsun Blue and Zincon use zinc pyrithione. These are cheap as zinc pyrithione might be a cheap ingredient compared to coal tar or salicylic acid.

If you want to know how to eliminate dandruff and hair fall, I recommend you try Selsun Blue. Brands like Neutrogena T/Sal and T/Gel, or Nizoral are equally effective due to high-end ingredients, Selsun Blue does the same at a lower price.

Please note that I’m just talking about my over-the-counter experience. Of course, the best scalp treatment for dry flaky scalp depends on your skin type and budget. But why would you want to spend more if you found a product that works?

2- Wash your Head Frequently

We get so busy with our routines that it’s hard to keep up with what’s important: a good hair wash. The best treatment for a dry flaky scalp with dandruff is not letting the fungus grow in your scalp.

It’s recommended that you clean your scalp after every 2-3 days. Use a good anti-dandruff shampoo that doesn’t strip your scalp of its natural oils.

Once you’re done washing your scalp, its important to moisturise it. Use coconut oil and olive oil to keep your scalp hydrated.  Or you can use a good quality mask too. When you protect your scalp from drying out, you’ll automatically see less dandruff and hair fall. That’s the best remedy for a dry and flaky scalp.

3- Avoid Products that Cause Build to Get Rid of Dandruff and Hair fall

The residue on your scalp is the reason for dandruff. Avoid using hair sprays, gels and leave-in treatments that cause build-up, dandruff and hair fall in the long run.

You’re trying not to aggravate the issue. So use simple products, or if you really want to experiment with a new gel or mouse, its good to use it and then use a detox shampoo

There are plenty of options available in the market, but I love the OGX charcoal detox shampoo. It gets rid of any excess build-up and leaves your scalp nice and clean.

4-  Manage Stress and Get Your Hormones Checked

You need to get your DHT levels checked. Multiple factors can cause DHT levels to rise. These include hormonal changes, medications and other lifestyle factors. DHT is crucial in determining your hair length and thickness. Your DHT levels may cause hair follicles to shrink causing hair thinning.

It’s amazing how DHT levels are linked to stress. Stress can cause different hormonal changes leading to an increase in DHT levels. A good antidandruff thickening shampoo may help in getting rid of DHT from your hair.

5-  Maintain a Healthy Diet and Avoid Scratching

Foods rich in zinc, Vitamin B and healthy fats help you get a healthy scalp. Everything is linked to diet, as it can construct or deconstruct your body. So invest in a healthy diet, and I’m sure you’ll see results. In some cases, simply eating less can help. People with thyroid should consult a doctor for a diet that’ll help you lose weight and you’ll see so many good changes in your body.

It’s best to consult a dermatologist for professional treatments. Sometimes over the counter anti dandruff anti hair fall shampoos work, and sometimes, they don’t. Sometimes, we keep on trying and don’t find the right solution. In all those cases, it’s best to seek professional medical help.
